Background
Over the years, time and time again, the church has been preserved from error by adhering to carefully thought out biblical confessions and creeds. Those that face theological battles lay down the fruit of their labors for future generations to help us in our own battle for the truth.
In the early seventeenth century, the clarity that had been formulated by the Reformers was under attack. Followers of Jacobus Arminius sought to distort the church’s understanding of God’s sovereign saving grace found in the person and work of Jesus Christ. In response to this attack, church leaders from all over Europe gathered to give clarity to the body of Christ. Their response to error is found in what is known as The Canons of Dort.
Each year in the month of October at Faith FPC, we endeavor to look at some aspect of history, particularly during the era of the Protestant Reformation. The Canons of Dort is our focus for 2019.
