Ephesians 5:22-31 gives us the most detailed, doctrinal and devotional instruction on Christian marriage in the New Testament. It is all posited on a stated parallel between the marriage union and the union between Christ and His people.

Why does Paul liken marriage to the union between Christ and His Church?

Malachi 2:14-15 gives us an insight into the true answer. In context, the Lord was condemning betrayal and unfaithfulness, esp. in marriage.
